Breed Restrictions

Brachycephalic or "short nosed dogs or mixed breeds of snub-nosed dogs and cats are not accepted in cargo - no exceptions. No breed restrictions for in-cabin as lona as the pet meet the minimum age requirement and fit properly in the accepted pet carrier under the seat.

Alaska Cargo Pet Connect™

Minimum age requirement of 8 weeks for cats and dogs and healthy to fly; cargo 100-500 kennel sizes accepted or most aircraft with the XXL or 700 kennel accepted on freighters only.

Breed Restrictions

Brachycephalic or "short-nosed dogs and cats are not accepted in cargo - no exceptions. The following breeds may still travel in-cabin as long as the pet meets the minimum age requirement and fit properly in the accepted pet carrier under the seat.

Small dogs, cats and household birds can travel in the cabin for a one-way fee that is collected at check-in. The pet must be able to fit in a soft-sided ventilated pet kennel that will go underneath the seat directly in front of you.


  • Your pet must be at least 8 weeks old for domestic travel.
  • Your pet dog must be 6 months old if traveling to the U.S. from another country and a pet cat must be at least 16 weeks old.
  • Your pet must be at least 15 weeks old when traveling to the European Union.
  • 1 pet is permitted per kennel with the following exceptions:
    • 1 female cat or dog may travel with her un-weaned litter if the litter is between 8 weeks and 6 months of age. There is no limit on the number of animals in the litter as long as they can fit safely in the kennel.
    • 2 pets of the same breed and size between the ages of 8 weeks and 6 months may be allowed to travel in 1 kennel, as long as they are small enough to fit into a single kennel and are compatible. If the pets are allowed to travel in 1 kennel, they will be charged as 1 pet.


Pets in kennels will count as your 1 carry-on item. In addition to the kennel, you are permitted to bring 1 personal item on board the aircraft.

Bringing your pet on the plane

  • We only accept small dogs and cats. No large dogs are accommodated on JetBlue. Unaccompanied minors cannot travel with a pet.
  • Your pet and approved pet carrier count as one personal item and must fit under the seat in front of you.

    • Only one pet is allowed per carrier, and they must be able to turn around comfortably when it’s closed.
    • All pets must remain inside the pet carrier while at the airport and on the plane.
    • If you purchased an additional seat for your pet, the carrier and pet must be stowed under the seat for taxi, takeoff and landing but can be placed on the empty seat during the flight.

The minimum age for travel to/from the USA is 16 weeks for dogs and cats. Lufthansa normally does not enforce temperature restrictions except on snub-nose breeds of dogs and cats.

The only way for pets to enter the U.K. is via manifested cargo unless pet is an approved service or emotional support animal. BA does not accept pets in-cabin or as excess baggage. Minimum age for travel to/from the USA is 10 weeks for dogs and cats.

Cargo Restricted Breeds

No dangerous dogs, Bulldogs or pugs. Heat embargo above

75°F for snub-nose breeds such as the Boston Terrier, Boxer, Brussels Griffin, Chow Chow, English Toy Spaniel, Japanese Chin and Pekinese.

The minimum age to fly in the cabin is 15 weeks of age.


Pet carrier requirements

Your pet’s carrier must:

  • Have adequate ventilation on at least 3 sides (domestic US) or 4 sides (international)
  • Be large enough for your pet to stand up and turn around comfortably
  • Be able to accommodate your entire pet. No part of your pet can extend out of the carrier
  • Be able to fit under the seat in front of you
  • Have a waterproof bottom and absorbent pet pad
  • Have secure fasteners (heavy duty zippers are recommended)

Maximum size carrier: 18″ x 11″ x 9.5″ (46 x 28 x 24 cm). Exit row or bulkhead seats cannot be reserved when flying with a pet.
